A Calcasieu man and his wife are suing his former employer over his work-related disability.

According to a lawsuit filed April 2 in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana, James A. Miller and Ruby Miller are suing Marine Spill Response Corp., Phoenix Pollution Control and Environmental Services Inc. and K-Solv LP.

Miller worked in decontaminating operations aboard the OSRV Gulf Coast Responder, owned by MSRC, and was injured on the job on April 7, 2014. His injuries, according to the lawsuit, were "grave and permanent ... to his left leg and other parts of his body and mind." He is now disabled, the suit claims.

According to the lawsuit, this disability was caused by "defective and unsafe conditions of the vessel owned and/or operated by MSRC and the equipment owned and/or operated by MSRC, Phoenix and/or K-Solv."

The Millers seek $45 per diem and "all necessary care," the lawsuit states.

The Millers are represented by Mark E. Kaufman of Cossich, Sumich, Parsiola and Taylor LLC of Belle Chasse.
