Bingo hall patron sues for allegedly injuries received when chair collapsed beneath her

GRETNA – A local woman is suing a bingo hall and the manufacturer of a chair that collapsed beneath her alleging she was severely injured and permanently disabled in the incident.

Tieana Spot filed suit against RSVL Inc., Azalea Bingo Hall, Western World Insurance and Sangyi Fire Retardant Plastic Products Company Ltd. in the 24th Judicial District Court on March 11.

Spot alleges she was a guest at Azalea Bingo Hall located at 940 Parc Helene Drive in Marrero on April 3, 2014 when she sat in a chair that collapsed beneath her. The plaintiff contends she fell to the floor and received several injuries to her spine, left foot and a broken left ankle that required medical treatment including surgery.

The defendants are accused of failing to determine the capacity of the chair, failing to warn that the chair had specifications for weight tolerance, failing to implement reasonable measures to discover defects in the chair, failing use reasonable care to keep the premises safe, failing to manufacture and assemble a safe chair, using interior materials, failing to use sufficiently strong materials, failing to test and establish appropriate warnings on chairs and failing to post warnings of any kind on the chair.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for physical pain and suffering, mental anguish, percent disability, medical expenses, loss of income, permanent disability and loss of enjoyment of life.

Spot is represented by attorney Robert G. Harvey Sr. of New Orleans.

The case has been assigned to Division C Judge June Berry Darensburg.
