Woman alleges faulty knee implant

A New Orleans woman has sued the maker of her knee transplant, citing injuries due to an alleged malfunction.

Victoria Lewis, of New Orleans filed a lawsuit May 1 in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against Zimmer Inc., Zimmer Holdings Inc. and Zimmer Orthopaedic Surgical Products Inc.

According to the complaint, on July 16, 2002, Lewis was implanted with a Zimmer NexGen knee device in the left knee by Dr. Mark Meyer, after which she suffered monetary and personal injuries. On May 2, 2014, she underwent revision surgery performed by the same physician, the suit says.

The plaintiff cites the need for compensatory damages for pain, suffering, emotional distress and economic loss.

Lewis seeks unspecified damages. She is represented by attorney Charles M. Thomas, Brian P. Marcelle and Stephen M. Huber of Huber, Slack, Thomas and Marcelle in New Orleans.
