GRETNA – A former employee of a local grocery store is suing his former bosses for allegedly assaulting him and threatening his life after they suspected him of stealing meat.
Nixon R. Calix filed suit against Ideal Market #6, Hamdallah LLC, Kaki and Son LLC, Hamdallah Hasan “Mario” Kaki, Muwafak “Mike” Kaki, Monadel “Cory” Elbarqa, Nodal “George” Haifa, John Does 1-4, El Cortez Foods LLC and their insurers in the 24th Judicial District Court on May 28.
Calix contends he was employed at the Ideal Market grocery store located at 3805 Hessmer Ave. in Metairie on April 29 when an unknown man took him from the store to the El Cortez headquarters. The plaintiff asserts that when he arrived he was confronted by the Kakis and other men who accused him of stealing meat from his place of employment. Calix claims that over a four hour period, from 6 to 10 p.m., the defendants assaulted and battered him as well as threatened his life before driving him home and reminding him they knew where he lives. The plaintiff alleges he reported the incident to local law enforcement authorities who have launched an investigation.
The defendant is accused of assault, battery and threats.
An unspecified amount in damages is sought for victimization, fear, loss of enjoyment of life, mental anguish, pain and suffering, continued harassment, legal costs, medical expenses, loss of employment and loss of income.
Calix is represented by Martin E. Regan Jr. of New Orleans-based Regan & Sandhu Law Firm.
The case has been assigned to Division K Judge Ellen Shirer Kovach.
Case no. 750-092.
