GRETNA – A painter is suing the owners of a local building for injuries he claims to have received in a fall from a ladder.
Joe Martin filed suit against James Plaza LLC, Roland James, Barbara James and their insurer in the 24th Judicial District Court on June 2.
Martin claims that on June 3, 2014 he was hired by the defendants to paint a two-story residential building in Gretna. The plaintiff alleges he was climbing an extension ladder so he could paint the upper part of the building when he fell from its top. Martin contends he received severe injuries in the fall to his back, neck and legs.
The defendant is accused of failing to properly supervise, failing to create a safe work area, failing to avoid injury, failing to maintain the building, failing to observe and inspect hazardous conditions, failing to warn of unsafe conditions, failing to correct an unsafe condition and failing to comply with applicable laws.
An unspecified amount in damages is sought for pain and suffering, mental anguish, medical expenses, disability, loss of enjoyment of life and disfigurement.
