City of Gretna sued by woman over fall on public sidewalk

GRETNA – A woman who fell on a public sidewalk is suing the City of Gretna over her alleged injuries.

Laguna Joseph filed suit against the City of Gretna in the 24th Judicial District Court on June 9.

Joseph contends that on June 11, 2014 she was walking near the Second Parish Court for Jefferson Parish when her foot was caught on a piece of uneven pavement causing her to fall. The plaintiff asserts she suffered injuries to her back, neck, knee and ring finger in the fall that has required medical care and treatment.

The defendant is accused of failing to keep he premises in a safe condition, failing to discover an unreasonably dangerous condition, exposing the plaintiff to harm, failing to adequately inspect the area, failing to place appropriate signs in the area, failing to comply with applicable laws, failing to warn of the hazard and failing to maintain proper care.

Damages in excess of $50,000 are sought for pain and suffering, mental anguish, medical expenses and loss of enjoyment of life.

Joseph is represented by Marcus A. Green of Carrero-based The Green Law Firm.

The case has been assigned to Division C Judge June Berry Darensburg.
