A St. Tammany Parish maritime worker is suing his employer, alleging negligence in an unspecified workplace injury.

Lance Verdin filed a lawsuit July 30 against Caillou Island Towing Co. Inc. (CIT) in U.S. District Court Eastern District of Louisiana, alleging negligence in a 2014 workplace injury.

According to the complaint, Verdin worked aboard the defendant’s vessel as a crew member and seaman, and on Aug. 25, 2014, the plaintiff suffered undetermined severe and disabling injuries to his back and shoulders, due to CIT’s negligence and its vessel’s unseaworthiness.

The suit says the equipment, machinery and crew were not reasonably fit for their intended use and that CIT has refused maintenance and cure for his alleged injuries.

The plaintiff alleges he sustained severe physical, mental and emotional pain and suffering, loss of wages and benefits, medical expenses, disability and lost earning capacity, and loss of life’s enjoyment.

Verdin seeks compensatory and punitive damages, maintenance and cure, interest, attorney fees, expenses and court costs. He is represented by attorney Russell B. Ramsey of New Orleans.
