NEW ORLEANS – An ex-seaman and crew member of the marine vessel American Patriot says his employer owes him for injuries he sustained at work.

Keny W. Guerrero filed a lawsuit Nov. 16 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against American Marine Corp. and American Workboats Inc., alleging negligence and unsafe working conditions.

According to the complaint, Guerrero was injured May 31 while working aboard the Patriot while it was in U.S. waters in the Gulf of Mexico. The suit says the injuries to his spine and extremities are severe and permanently disabling, including loss of physical and mental function that left him unable to work.

Guerrero seeks $50 per day from the time of his injury until maximum medical care is achieved, plus punitive damages, interest and litigation costs. He is represented by attorney John G. Munoz of the New Orleans firm Garner & Munoz.
