NEW ORLEANS – A Jefferson Parish man says his employer, DMC Marine, is liable for disabling injuries he allegedly suffered on the job.

James A. Billiot filed a lawsuit Dec. 15 in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against DMC Marine LLC and the marine vessel Ms. Natalia, her engine, tackle, etc., citing negligence and unseaworthiness of the vessel.

According to the complaint, Billiot was a crew member of the Ms. Natalia in April, when he suffered three separate injuries while performing maintenance on the vessel. On April 13, the suit says he fell from a ladder, on April 27, his right knee was punctured by a piece of metal while kneeling on the deck, and on Oct. 13, he injured his head, neck, back and spine when a block fell from the rigging. Billiot claims his injuries were severe and disabling, and included a bacterial infection allegedly due to the defendant’s failure to clean the vessel.

Billiot seeks damages of $500,000, plus wages, maintenance and cure for the three incidents. He is represented by attorneys Anthony S. Taormina and Charles W. Dittmer Jr. of the Law Offices of Anthony Taormina in Metairie.
