NEW ORLEANS – A 65-year-old Iberia Parish man says his employer fired him because of his medical condition.
Rodger G. Bonin Sr. filed a lawsuit Dec. 24 in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against Frederick’s Machine & Tool Shop Inc., alleging violations of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
According to the complaint, Bonin, who suffers from diabetes and hypertension, was a quality control inspector at Frederick’s Machine Shop. Bonin claims he overheard a new supervisor tell others he wanted to get rid of him. One day, when Bonin asked the new supervisor for time off to see his doctor, the supervisor allegedly initially refused, but told Bonin he could leave near the end of the work day. In a meeting the next day, company officials told Bonin they could no longer employ him because his medications made him a safety risk to the company, the suit states.
Bonin seeks a jury trial and punitive and compensatory damages, including wages, interest and litigation costs. He is represented by attorney Robert B. Landry III of the Baton Rouge firm Robert B. Landry III PLC.
