Rig worker blames companies for injuries allegedly suffered on the job

Injury

LAFAYETTE – An Iberia Parish man says he fell through a walkway and was injured on an oil platform where he was working, allegedly due to crane repairs being performed by Precision Crane and Hydraulics.

Christopher Morvant filed a lawsuit Jan. 20 in U.S. District Court of the Lafayette-Opelousas Division of the Western District of Louisiana against Energy XXI USA Inc., Energy XXI Gulf Coast Inc. and Precision Crane and Hydraulics LLC, alleging negligence and failure to provide safe working conditions.

According to the complaint, Morvant was working for H&H Well Services Inc. on April 6 as a wireline helper. As he worked aboard Eugene Island Platform No. 259C – owned and operated by Energy XXI USA and Energy XXI Gulf Coast – the suit says Precision Crane was also performing crane operations and repairs. Morvant fell through an opening in a walkway allegedly opened as a result of the defendants' repairs.

Morvant seeks damages of $2.7 million, plus interest, attorneys' fees and court costs. He is represented by attorneys Edward O. Taulbee IV and Christopher E. Taulbee of the Taulbee Law Firm in Lafayette.
