NEW ORLEANS – The federal government alleges a U.S. citizen currently living in Panama owes penalties in regards to a foreign bank account.
United States of America filed a complaint on April 12 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against Marian K. Baroni alleging that the woman failed to file a report of foreign bank and financial accounts.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that it suffered financial losses for non-collection of assessed penalties in the amount of $1,522,484.43. The plaintiff holds Marian K. Baroni responsible because the defendant allegedly willfully failed to timely report her financial interest in a foreign bank account, falsely represented that she had no interest in a foreign financial account, and instructed UBS AG, the financial institution, to hold all mail from the account.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against defendant and in favor of the United States for the assessed penalties in the amount of $1,522,484.43, plus further interest and statutory additions from Nov. 3, 2015, to the date of payment, costs incurred for this action and such other relief as justice requires.
