LAFAYETTE — A Caddo Parish man is suing the operator of a small Shreveport shopping center, alleging failure to provide safe and full access to the property.
James Bledsoe filed a lawsuit April 14 in U.S. District Court for the Western District of Louisiana against Fleming Properties Kings LLC, alleging failure to uphold Americans with Disabilities Act regulations.
According to the complaint, on Feb. 25, Bledsoe visited the Shreveport property where he experienced serious difficulty accessing the goods and services due to architectural barriers. The plaintiff alleges Fleming Properties failed to remove the built-up curb ramp to access the aisle of the accessible-designated parking space and failed to provide restrooms accessible to and usable by persons with disabilities.
Bledsoe seeks a trial by jury, a declaration the defendant is in violation of the ADA, an order to alter the property to make it accessible to and useable by individuals with disabilities, attorney fees, costs and expenses, and such other relief the court deems proper. He is represented by attorneys Andrew D. Bizer and Garret S. DeReus of The Bizer Law Firm in New Orleans.
