LAFAYETTE – A safety technician alleges he was injured in a crane accident on a platform in the Gulf of Mexico.
Troy A. Maillet filed a complaint on April 19 in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Louisiana Lafayette-Opelousas Division against Gulf Crane Services Inc., Freeport McMoran Inc. and Freeport-McMoran Oil & Gas LLC alleging that they violated the industry safety standards.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on June 12, 2015, he was being transported from the platform to a vessel together with other crew members via a crane-mounted personnel basket when, suddenly and without warning, the personnel basket crashed into the crane boom rest. As a direct and proximate result, he alleges he suffered severe and permanently disabling injuries.
The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible because the defendants allegedly violated the company rules and regulations, failed to comply with the federal safety rules and regulations, failed to assign a properly trained crane operator, failed to adequately train the crane operator, failed to supervise and failed to properly maintain its crane.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks compensation in an amount reasonable in the premises, plus interest, all costs of these proceedings and for all other such general and equitable relief as the court may deem proper.
