NEW ORLEANS – A Harahan business alleges a bulk carrier damaged its New Orleans dock.

Dixie Marine Inc. filed a complaint on July 5 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against vessel Q Jake and Quintana Shipping LTD alleging maritime tort.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Jan. 26, it suffered structural damage to the entire wharf in an amount exceeding $263,000 as a result of the defendant vessel. As a result of the damage, it alleges it will continue to suffer loss of income and rental fees. The plaintiff holds the vessel Q Jake and Quintana Shipping LTD responsible because Q Jake allegedly attempted to dock at the wharf with only two supporting tugs; failed to arrange its safe movement, navigation, and mooring; and failed to use due care and extreme caution.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against defendants for the amount of damages, plus interest, costs, attorneys’ fees and such other and further relief that the court deems just and proper. It is represented by David S. Bland and Mallory G. Wynne of Bland & Partners PLLC in New Orleans.
