NEW ORLEANS – A Muslim man alleges his lease for an apartment in a Covington complex was not renewed because of his religion.

Ali Ahmed Alameri filed a complaint the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against the Ibis Trail at Covington LLC, Astor Property Management Services LLC, Astor Property Management LLC and Stephanie Alcahe alleging that they violated the Fair Housing Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that he and his family rented a property from the defendants and had done so since 2011 and were model tenants. The plaintiff holds Ibis Trail at Covington LLC, Astor Property Management Services LLC, Astor Property Management LLC and Alcahe responsible because the defendants allegedly refused to negotiate for the renewal of the lease and denied a dwelling to Alameri because of faith or national origin.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks award for monetary damages, attorney's fees and costs and for such additional relief as justice may require. He is represented by Dale E. of Law Offices of Dale E. Williams in Covington.
