NEW ORLEANS – A Washington Parish woman claims a Slidell bar does not provide safe access to those with disabilities.
Lynette Bech filed a complaint in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against Heidelberg's Inc. and William B. Heidelberg citing the Americans with Disabilities Act.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that she was deterred from visiting the defendants' property due to architectural barriers she has seen on the property's exterior and she fears that she will encounter the same barriers to access the property. The plaintiff holds Heidelberg's Inc. and Heidelberg responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to remove barriers to access their property and failed to adopt any alternatives to barrier removal.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks declaration that defendants' property is in violation of the ADA, ordering defendants to alter the property to make it accessible to and useable by individuals with mobility disabilities, attorney's fees, costs, and expenses and further relief as it deems necessary.
