ALEXANDRIA – A Morehouse Parish woman alleges she was injured and cause several emotional distress by members of the Morehouse Parish Sheriff's Office.
Janice L. Hampton filed a complaint in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Louisiana against Morehouse Parish Sheriff, Michael Tubbs, Deputy Lloyd Hamm, Deputy Kim Shepard and XYZ insurance company alleging that they violated the Fourth and the 14th Amendments to the U.S. Constitution.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Aug. 16, 2015, she was at the Town House making an order of food. The suit states that police officers arrived in the parking lot ordered everyone to clear it and go inside a club. She alleges that 45 minutes later, she exited the club to go pay and pick up her food, when Hamm placed her in handcuffs. She alleges her pinky finger was broken during this process.
The plaintiff holds Morehouse Parish Sheriff, Tubbs, Hamm, Shepard and XYZ insurance company responsible because the defendants allegedly unlawfully used excessive force, employed improper police procedures, and failed to provide continuous proper medical treatment.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks compensatory damages in the amount of $1 million, punitive damages in the amount of $1 million, attorney's fees and costs and such other relief as the court may deem appropriate.
