ALEXANDRIA – A man alleges a coffeemaker malfunctioned and injured him.

Richard Prather filed a complaint on Aug. 25 in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Louisiana, Alexandria Division against Keurig Inc. and Keurig Green Mountain Inc. alleging that the Vermont corporations violated the Louisiana Products Liability Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Dec. 10, 2015, he sustained injuries to his person when a Keurig Mini Plus Brewing System suddenly emitted pressurized boiling water and steam, which immediately came into contact with his body. The plaintiff holds Keurig Inc. and Keurig Green Mountain Inc. responsible because the defendant allegedly dangerously designed and manufactured the Keurig Mini Plus Brewing System components and failed to provide a timely warning or recall the defective product upon learning of the propensity for an occurrence.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks compensation for all damages in the sum amount of $550,000, plus interest, all costs for this action and all other relief to which he may be entitled. He is represented by Scott E. Silbert of Slibert, Garon, Pitre & Friedman in New Orleans.
