BATON ROUGE – An inmate at Elayn Hunt Correctional Center alleges a correction officer used corporal punishment on him and caused him injuries.

Raymond Demoulin filed a complaint on Sept. 14 in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Louisiana against Capt. Shane Ladner alleging that the correction officer violated his constitutional rights.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Jan. 20, while he was detained at Elayn Hunt Correctional Center, the defendant slammed his face on the ground, choked and beat him, causing him to sustain multiple serious injuries to his arm, neck, back, ribs, back of legs and face. The plaintiff holds Ladner responsible because the defendant allegedly used unnecessary and excessive force when the plaintiff was not resisting and failed to follow rules and regulations implemented for the protection of inmates.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks compensation for all damages, plus attorney's fees and costs and for such other relief that the court may deem just. He is represented by Donna U. Grodner of Grodner & Associates in Baton Rouge.
