Couple alleges USPS employee caused Lake Charles accident

Car accident 04

LAKE CHARES – A Lake Charles couple alleges they suffered damages and personal injuries after an accident in the city with a United States Postal Service employee.

Song Ee Joo and Dr. Woo Il Steven Park filed a complaint on Sept. 28 in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Louisiana against United States of America alleging that the government agency defendant's employee negligently failed to obey traffic control device.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that on July 2, 2014, plaintiff Joo was driving a 2013 Infiniti JX35 owned by her husband (Park) on McNeese Street, when suddenly and without warning a USPS employee pulled the USPS truck into oncoming traffic in front of plaintiffs' vehicle, causing a collision that resulted in injuries to plaintiff Joo's person. Park alleges he suffered loss of consortium, service and society.

The plaintiffs hold the United States of America responsible because defendant's employee allegedly failed to yield the right of way, failed to see what should have seen and operated the vehicle in a careless and reckless manner.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek judgment in their favor for all equitable relief that are proper under the premises, plus attorney's fees, costs and expenses for these proceedings. They are represented by Claude P. Devall and J. Lee Hoffoss Jr. of Hoffoss Devall LLC in Lake Charles.
