NEW ORLEANS – A 65-year-old African-American male alleges he was denied several promotions because of his race and sex.

Earl Thompson filed a complaint on Dec. 16 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against U.S. Department of the Interior Secretary Sally Jewell, U.S. Department of the Interior and the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement alleging that they violated Title VII of the Civil Rights Act and the Louisiana Age Discrimination and Employment Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that throughout his years working for defendants as a physical science technician, he persistently applied for promotions that were all denied. As a result, he alleges he has suffered damages, including lost wages and benefits, mental anguish, humiliation and embarrassment. The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible because the defendants allegedly subjected him to discriminatory terms and conditions of employment, which prevented him from receiving a promotion because of his age, race and sex.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment rendered against defendants in an amount reasonable in the premises, together with interest, costs of these proceedings, and all general and equitable relief. He is represented by G. Karl Bernard of G. Karl Bernard and Associates LLC in New Orleans.
