Woman alleges she is owed disability benefits from Unum Life Insurance

Insurance 01

NEW ORLEANS – A former Apache Corp. employee alleges she is disabled and has not received disability benefits.

Lauren R. Jacob filed a complaint on Dec. 21 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against Unum Life Insurance Co. of America alleging violation of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that she has suffered monetary damages for not receiving total disability benefits due to her. She alleges she became disabled in January 2014. The plaintiff holds Unum Life Insurance Co. of America responsible because the defendant allegedly has failed to pay her benefits to which she claims she is clearly entitled under defendant's insurance policy.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against defendant, for benefits, enforcing her rights and clarifying her rights to future benefits, plus interest, costs, and attorney’s fees and for legal and equitable relief. She is represented by J. Price McNamara of The Law Offices of J. Price McNamara in Baton Rouge.
