BATON ROUGE – A Prairieville business is accused of broadcasting a sports event without authorization.

J&J Sports Productions Inc. filed a complaint on Jan. 12 in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Louisiana against Mom’s Bar LLC, doing business as Mom’s Place, and Fred W. Ficklin alleging that they violated the Cable & Television Consumer Protection and Competition Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Nov. 22, 2014, plaintiff was the exclusive commercial domestic distributor of the televised fight Manny Pacquiao v. Chris Algieri, WBO Welterweight Championship fight program. The plaintiff holds Mom’s Bar LLC and Ficklin responsible because the defendants allegedly unlawfully and willfully intercepted and broadcasted plaintiff's program for private financial gain and without plaintiff's permission and/or authorization.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks statutory damages, litigation costs and all other just and proper relief. It is represented by Ronnie J. Berthelot of The Berthelot Law Firm LLC in Baton Rouge.
