African-American woman alleges she was wrongfully terminated by Rapides Parish DA office

ALEXANDRIA – An African-American woman alleges she was wrongfully terminated from her position as an assistant district attorney for Rapides Parish.

Ruby Norris Freeman filed a complaint on Jan. 27 in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Louisiana, Alexandria against Phillip Terrell, in his official capacity as Rapides Parish District Attorney, alleging that the former employer violated Title VII of the Civil Rights Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that during her employment with defendant, she was treated differently than another similarly situated white, male assistant district attorney regarding allotment and volume of workload and was terminated from on June 30, 2015. She alleges she was terminated because she filed a complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. The plaintiff holds Terrell responsible because the defendant allegedly subjected her to discriminatory and unequal treatment and hostile work environment based on her sex and race and retaliated against her by terminating her employment and replaced her with a white male who had not participated in EEOC activity.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks compensatory and punitive damages, prejudgment interest, and all other relief as the court finds equitable, just and proper. She is represented by Allison A. Jones of Downer, Jones, Marino & Wilhite in Shreveport.
