NEW ORLEANS — A Jones Act seaman alleges his lower back was injured because of an unsafe work environment.

Terry L. Cooke filed a complaint on Feb. 9 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against Hornbeck Offshore Services LLC and Hornbeck Offshore Operators LLC alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Feb. 19, 2015, while in the course and scope of his employment with defendant HOS aboard the vessel HOS Claymore, his back was injured when he lifted and pulled up the starboard gangway. As a result, he alleges he sustained serious, painful, disabling and/or permanent injuries to his lower back.

The plaintiff holds Hornbeck Offshore Services LLC and Hornbeck Offshore Operators LLC responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to properly supervise, direct and control the lifting of the gangway and failed to provide appropriate equipment and competent crewmembers for the operation.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against defendants, jointly and severally, in an amount that is reasonable in the premises, plus interest and for all costs of these proceedings. He is represented by Terrence J. Lestelle, Andrea S. Lestelle, Richard M. Morgain of Lestelle & Lestelle in Metairie.
