NEW ORLEANS – A deckhand alleges he was injured by a tree branch that was on a vessel.

Corey Cannon filed a complaint on Feb. 15 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against American River Transportation Co. LLC alleging that the vessel operator failed to provide a safe place to work.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on July 3, 2015, he was working for defendant aboard its vessel, the M/V Louisiana Pride, when he sustained serious and disabling injuries to his left ankle from stepping on a tree branch that was lodged under a winch line. The plaintiff holds American River Transportation Co. LLC responsible because the defendant allegedly negligently allowed the existence of an unsafe, dangerous and unseaworthy condition aboard the M/V Louisiana Pride and failed to warn crew members of the dangerous condition.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks monetary damages in the full and true sum in amounts as are reasonable under the premises, to be proven at the trial, plus the costs of these proceedings, interest and all other equitable and just relief. He is represented by Joseph F. Gaar Jr., Jason M. Welborn, Lucas S. Colligan, Jacob H. Hargett of Joseph F. Gaar Jr. APLC in Lafayette, Louisiana.
