NEW ORLEANS – Several Terrebonne Parish residents alleged they were injured because of an underwater pipeline.

Jody Guy, Jodie Guy, Travis Paul Guy and Wilson Guy, et al. filed a complaint on Feb. 21 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against Texas Petroleum Investment Co. alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that on Feb. 29, 2016, Jody Guy was operating his 21-foot vessel, in which Travis Guy and Wilson Guy were passengers, when suddenly and without warning the boat struck a submerged underwater pipeline owned and maintained by defendant. As a result, they suffered severe and debilitating bodily injuries. The plaintiffs hold Texas Petroleum Investment Co. responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to notify and properly warn boaters of the existence of the dangerous condition.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek award for actual and compensatory damages, costs, interest and attorney fees and such other and further relief as the court may deem just and proper. They are represented by John H. Smith, Loren D. Shanklin and Alicia M. Sosa of Smith Shanklin Sosa LLC in Baton Rouge.
