Rig electrician alleges he was injured during transfer to vessel

Oilrig 07

NEW ORLEANS – A Jackson County, Mississippi man and his wife allege the man was injured while working as a rig electrician.

Robert G. Hicks and Tina Hicks filed a complaint on March 17 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against BP Exploration & Production Inc., BP Products North America Inc., Bishop Lifting Products Inc. Subsea 7 (US) LLC, et al. alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that on March 20, 2016, plaintiff Robert Hicks was employed by Ensco PLC Drilling performing work aboard defendant BP's Mad Dog's floating spar platform. The suit states he was being transferred by a Billy Pugh-type transfer device via crane to a vessel in inclement weather and was injured when the Billy Pugh collided with the vessel.

Tina Hicks alleges he suffered loss of her husband’s consortium, love and affection.

The plaintiffs holds BP Exploration & Production Inc., BP Products North America Inc., Bishop Lifting Products Inc. Subsea 7 (US) LLC, et al responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to implement safe work procedures, failed to hire and maintain adequate and competent crew and failed to provide prompt and adequate medical attention.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek compensatory and punitive damages, costs and expenses in this matter and such other, further, equitable and general relief. They are represented by Matthew S. Lott of The Lott Law Firm in Pascagoula, Mississippi.
