Man claims Aetna Life wrongfully terminated benefits, cost him his job

Insurance 08

NEW ORLEANS – A former Cox employee alleges his disability benefits were wrongfully terminated.

Ryan Williams filed a complaint on March 28 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against Aetna Life Insurance Co. alleging that the plan administrator violated the Employee Retirement Income Security Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Jan. 31, he lost his job after defendant wrongfully terminated his long-term disability benefits in July 2016 and because he did not produce a doctor's certificate authorizing him to return to work. He alleges he has suffered and will continue to suffer substantial economic loss and was compelled to self-pay his medical care.

The plaintiff holds Aetna Life Insurance Co. responsible because the defendant allegedly wrongfully terminated plaintiff's long-term disability benefits and failed to provide any medical evidence in support of its denial of plaintiff's claims.

The plaintiff seeks all damages, penalties, attorney’s fees, expert fees, costs, expenses and any other relief to which he may be entitled under law or equity. He is represented by Jennifer N. Willis and Jennifer S. Martinez of Willis & Buckley APC in New Orleans.
