BATON ROUGE – A closed circuit pay-per-view distributor alleges a Baton Rouge establishment broadcasted a sporting event without authorization.
J&J Sports Productions Inc. filed a complaint on April 29 in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Louisiana against Sweet Ultimate Bar and Grill LLC, doing business as Sweet Ultimate Bar and Grill, and Debra Jackson alleging that they violated the Cable & Television Consumer Protection and Competition Act.
According to the complaint in May 2, 2015, plaintiff was the exclusive commercial domestic distributor of The Fight of the Century, Floyd Mayweather Jr. v. Manny Pacquiao Championship Fight Program. The plaintiff alleges that it has suffered damages for not receiving royalty payments for the said program.
The plaintiff holds Sweet Ultimate Bar and Grill LLC, doing business as Sweet Ultimate Bar and Grill, and Jackson responsible because the defendants allegedly unlawfully and willfully intercepted, broadcasted and/or published plaintiff's program on their premises.
The plaintiff seeks statutory damages in the sum amount of $170,000, attorney’s fees, costs of suit and all other relief as the court may deem just and proper. It is represented by Ronnie J. Berthelot of The Berthelot Law Firm LLC in Baton Rouge.
