BATON ROUGE, La. (Legal Newsline) – Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry announced April 21 that close to 2,000 students in the state who attended Corinthian Colleges Inc. schools between 2010 and 2014 may be eligible for loan forgiveness.

Landry’s office will mail letters to students that explain the potential relief options available to them. The affected students will need to submit an application to the U.S. Department of Education (USDOE). If their applications are accepted, students will no longer need to make payments, and any loans they had already paid off will be refunded.

“Thousands of Louisiana students were misled by institutions who engaged in deceptive trade practices by misrepresenting job placement rates for many of their programs,” said Landry. “My Public Protection Division and I are working to get justice for these students, and we will continue to fight for all the hard-working people of our state.”

Landry noted that students should always be aware of potential scams when it comes to student loans.

“It is free to apply for loan forgiveness or get information on loan forgiveness for free through the USDOE,” Landry said. “The USDOE also never charges application or maintenance fees.
