Driver accuses United Rentals North America of disability discrimination

BATON ROUGE – A man alleges an equipment rental company discriminated against him because of his disability.

Philip A. “Bert” Callais filed a complaint on May 16 in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Louisiana against United Rentals North America Inc. alleging violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff was hired as a driver for the defendant in 2013 and was subjected to discrimination, harassment and retaliation because of his disability. The plaintiff holds United Rentals North America Inc. responsible because the defendant allegedly refused to provide reasonable accommodation.

The plaintiff seeks compensatory and punitive damages, plus interest, attorney’s fees and costs of court. He is represented by Dan M. Scheuermann in Baton Rouge.
