BATON ROUGE – A Baton Rouge teacher alleges that she was denied equal pay based on her gender.
Melissa Durham filed a complaint on June 1 in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Louisiana against AMIKids' Baton Rouge Inc. alleging that the former employer willfully violated the Equal Pay Act and the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that during her employment with defendant, she was paid less than male classroom teachers with fewer qualifications and required skills. The plaintiff holds AMIKids' Baton Rouge Inc. responsible because the defendant allegedly denied plaintiff equal remuneration and subjected her to harassment, discrimination and retaliation.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks an order for her reinstatement, back and front pay and all further general and equitable relief. She is representing herself.
