NEW ORLEANS – A Jones Act seaman alleges he was injured while working because his employer failed to provide adequate equipment.

Cody Theriot filed a complaint on June 20 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against Offshore Marine Contractors Inc. alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on July 6, 2014, he was employed by defendant when experienced an accident on the L/B Lucas Bourg, which resulted in serious painful injuries to his head and other parts of the body. To date, he alleges he remains unfit and incapable of returning to duty as a seaman.

The plaintiff holds Offshore Marine Contractors Inc. responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to provide adequate equipment and sufficient personnel for the job and failed to implement and oversee safe and reasonable methods of work.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks compensatory and punitive damages, plus legal interest, maintenance and cure benefits, attorney's fees, costs and all other general and equitable relief. He is represented by Wesley Blanchard and Eric Santana of WJ Blanchard Law LLC in Metairie.
