Taylor Porter Partners Lenore Feeney and Barrye Miyagi served on a panel of attorneys for a CLE seminar, "How to Win at Trial - Hint: Pre-Trial Prep is the Key," held at the Louisiana State Bar Association Midyear Meeting, on January 17, at the Renaissance Baton Rouge Hotel.
The moderator for the panel was attorney Lynn Luker, of New Orleans-based firm, Stanley, Reuter, Ross, Thornton & Alford, LLC. Feeney is a partner and employment lawyer with Taylor Porter. Practicing law since 1988, Feeney represents employers in a wide variety of human resources matters including preventative advice and counseling concerning compliance with state and federal employment laws such as Title VII, ADA, FMLA, GINA, ADEA, and NLRA and all aspects of employment litigation. Feeney represents a number of state agencies in defending employment disciplinary decisions before the State Civil Service Commission, and she represents both private employers and state agencies before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, Louisiana Commission on Human Rights, and Department of Labor as well as state and federal court. In addition to her 30 years of litigation experience, Feeney has represented employers in arbitrations and mediations. She has experience drafting employee handbooks, employee evaluation documents, employment contracts and non-competition agreements, and she lectures on employment issues and conducts employee training.
Miyagi, JD, CMSP, is a Partner at Taylor Porter, practicing in the areas of general litigation, toxic tort defense, alternative dispute resolution, and Medicare Secondary Payer and MMSEA (Section 111) Compliance. She has more than 25 years of experience defending some of the region’s most prominent petrochemical, energy and manufacturing companies. She defends premises owners in chemical exposure cases and other personal injury claims. She also defends premises and product manufacturers in asbestos-related cases. Miyagi has significant experience in handling settlement and litigation issues related to the Medicare Secondary Payer Act. She counsels businesses on the Medicare rules and regulations, including identifying and resolving Medicare’s interest in settlements and judgments, as well as complying with Section 111 of the Medicare, Medicaid and SCHIP Extension Act. Miyagi is certified by the Louisiana Association of Self Insured Employers (LASIE) as a Certified Medicare Secondary Payer (CMSP) Professional. The CMSP certification is designed to identify those professionals who work within the workers’ compensation and liability insurance industry and have demonstrated superior knowledge and skills in the field of Medicare Secondary Payer Compliance.
