Mouledoux, Bland, Legrand & Brackett, LLC issued the following announcement on Aug. 6.

As they have in years past, the American Transportation Research Institute (ATRI) released its Top Truck Bottlenecks for 2020. To formulate the list, ATRI conducts an in-depth analysis of 300 freight-significant highway locations using truck position and speed data derived from wireless onboard communications systems used by the trucking industry, including GPS data from over 1,000,000 trucks. The analytics result in a study which breaks down the most congested portions of America’s roadways. Earlier this year, the ATRI released its 2020 list, which showed the Top 10 choke-points as:

Fort Lee, New Jersey: I-95 at SR 4

Atlanta, Georgia: I-285 at I-85 (North)

Nashville, Tennessee: I-24/I-40 at I-440 (East)

Houston, Texas: I-45 at I-69/US 59

Atlanta, Georgia: I-75 at 285 (North)

Chicago, Illinois: I-290 at I-90/I-94

Atlanta, Georgia: I-20 at I-285 (West)

Cincinnati, Ohio: I-71 at I-75

Los Angeles, California: SR 60 at SR 57

Los Angeles, California: I-710 at I-105

Each of the Top 10 were in the Top 10 in 2019. Fort Lee, New Jersey, located across the Hudson River from Manhattan, held onto its top spot as the most congested stretch of American highway for truck-borne freight. Two of the top ten are again located in Atlanta, with another two again in Los Angeles. The Nashville bottleneck rose from #8 last year. Once again, no location in the New Orleans Metropolitan Area made the Top 100, and the only location in Louisiana to make the list was Baton Rouge, Louisiana, at I-10 at I-110, which checked in at #27, falling from #19 in the 2019 list. Six of the 2020 Top 25 locations are in Texas and four are in Atlanta.
