Louisiana Governor's Office issued the following announcement on Apr. 9.
Gov. John Bel Edwards announced his appointments to several Louisiana boards and commissions.
Louisiana State Arts Council
The Louisiana State Arts Council receives applications for matching federal funds available from the National Endowment for the Arts and such other funds made available to the council and make recommendations thereon. The Council reviews and approves or rejects said grant applications from other governmental units, community arts councils, and other private, nonprofit, and tax-exempt groups. Additionally, the Council advises departmental officers on the design and execution of an annual state plan consistent with the goals and policies of the department as provided by federal and state law, rules, and regulations, and submits the plan to the National Endowment for the Arts.
Ed “Tiger” Verdin of Franklin has been appointed to the Louisiana State Arts Council. Verdin is the director of public relations for the City of Franklin and was nominated by the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
Louisiana Professional Engineering and Land Surveying Board
The Louisiana Professional Engineering and Land Surveying Board oversees the licensure of professional engineers and professional land surveyors. The Board works to safeguard life, health, and property and to promote the public welfare.
James H. Chustz of New Roads has been appointed to the Louisiana Professional Engineering and Land Surveying Board. Chustz is the president of Chustz Surveying.
Janice P. Williams of Baton Rouge has been appointed to the Louisiana Professional Engineering and Land Surveying Board. Williams is a retired licensed professional engineer and will represent the government.
Crime Victims Reparations Board
The Crime Victims Reparations Board assists victims of violence and their families with the emotional, physical, and financial aftermath of crime. The Louisiana Crime Victims Reparations Fund helps innocent victims and their families when they have no other means of paying for the financial cost of crime. The fund is administered by the Crime Victims Reparations Board under the jurisdiction of the Louisiana Commission on Law Enforcement.
Judy A. Dupuy of Baton Rouge has been appointed to the Crime Victims Reparations Board. Dupuy is a program consultant for Office of Family Violence Prevention and Intervention in the Department of Children and Family Services and will represent the 6th Congressional District.
Louisiana D.A.R.E. Advisory Board
The Louisiana D.A.R.E. Advisory Board is charged with developing, promoting, monitoring, and evaluating the DARE program throughout the state. The board serves as an advisory body to the Louisiana Commission on Law Enforcement and Administration of Criminal Justice in this respect.
Sgt. C. Scott Lathrop of St. Francisville has been appointed to the Louisiana D.A.R.E. Advisory Board. Lathrop is a sergeant for the West Feliciana Parish Sheriff’s Office and will serve as the president of the Louisiana D.A.R.E. Officer’s Association.
Louisiana Folklife Commission
The Louisiana Folklife Commission advises the Department of Culture, Recreation, and Tourism’s Office of Cultural Development on policy, objectives, and budgeting needs in the identification, preservation, and presentation of Louisiana folk cultural resources.
Raymond O. Berthelot Jr. of Baton Rouge has been reappointed to the Louisiana Folklife Commission. Berthelot is a parks program manager for the Office of State Parks and will represent the Office of State Parks.
Sharon A. Calcote of Baton Rouge has been appointed to the Louisiana Folklife Commission. Calcote is the Louisiana Byways director and will represent the Office of Tourism.
Brian M. Davis of West Monroe has been reappointed to the Louisiana Folklife Commission. Davis is the executive director for the Louisiana Trust for Historic Preservation and will represent the Louisiana Trust for Historic Preservation.
Teresa Parker Farris Ph.D. of New Orleans has been reappointed to the Louisiana Folklife Commission. Farris is a cultural historian and arts administrator and will serve as a representative of university faculty.
Herman J. Fuselier Jr. of Opelousas has been reappointed to the Louisiana Folklife Commission. Fuselier is the executive director at St. Landry Parish Tourist Commission and will represent the Department of Culture, Recreation, and Tourism.
Tommy I. Hailey Ph.D. of Ponchatoula has been reappointed to the Louisiana Folklife Commission. Hailey is a professor of anthropology and archaeology at Northwestern State University and the director of its Cultural Resources Office. Hailey will represent the Louisiana Folklife Society.
James R. “Jim” Hogg of Prairieville has been reappointed to the Louisiana Folklife Commission. Hogg is the CEO at Jim Hogg Group and will represent the Department of Culture, Recreation, and Tourism.
Guy D. Hughes of Mandeville has been appointed to the Louisiana Folklife Commission. Hughes is the chief resource management officer at the Jean Lafitte Parks Service and will represent the Jean Lafitte National Park and Preserve.
Julia Susannah Bing Johannsen of Baton Rouge has been appointed to the Louisiana Folklife Commission. Johannsen is the executive director of the Division of the Arts and will represent the Division of the Arts.
Karen T. Leathem of New Orleans has been reappointed to the Louisiana Folklife Commission. Leathem is the museum historian for the Louisiana State Museum and will represent the Louisiana State Museum.
Shane E. Rasmussen of Natchitoches has been appointed to the Louisiana Folklife Commission. Rasmussen is the director of the Louisiana Folklife Center and a professor of English at Northwestern State University. Rasmussen will serve as a representative of university faculty.
Maria E. Rodriguez-Casillas of New Orleans has been appointed to the Louisiana Folklife Commission. Rodriguez-Casillas is a dog groomer at Midcity Veterinary Hospital and will represent the Department of Culture, Recreation, and Tourism.
Margaret “Susan” Roach Ph.D. of Ruston has been reappointed to the Louisiana Folklife Commission. Roach is the director of the School of Literature and Language at Louisiana Tech University and will serve as a representative of university faculty.
Mona Lisa Saloy Ph.D. of New Orleans has been appointed to the Louisiana Folklife Commission. Saloy is the Conrad N. Hilton Endowed Professor of English at Dillard University and will serve as a representative of university faculty.
Raymond W. Scriber of Baton Rouge has been appointed to the Louisiana Folklife Commission. Scriber is the director of Louisiana Main Street and will represent the Division of Historic Preservation.
John T. Sharp II of Lafayette has been reappointed to the Louisiana Folklife Commission. Sharp is the assistant director for research at the University of Louisiana Lafayette’s Center for Louisiana Studies. Sharp will represent the Louisiana Folklife Society.
Maegan A. Smith of Lafayette has been appointed to the Louisiana Folklife Commission. Smith is the archaeology outreach coordinator at the Louisiana Division of Archaeology and will represent the Division of Archaeology.
Kimberly S. Walden M.Ed. of Jeanerette has been reappointed to the Louisiana Folklife Commission. Walden is the cultural director and tribal historic preservation officer for the Chitimacha Tribe of Louisiana and will represent the Department of Culture, Recreation, and Tourism.
Commission on Perinatal Care and Prevention of Infant Mortality
This commission is responsible for researching and reviewing all state laws, regulations, guidelines, policies, and procedures that impact perinatal care and, where appropriate, making recommendations to the legislature and secretary of Louisiana Department of Health. In addition, the commission is responsible for providing a plan that the state can adopt to reduce the number of teenage pregnancies, sick infants, and infant mortalities.
Courtney K. Campbell M.D. of Baton Rouge has been appointed to the Commission on Perinatal Care and Prevention of Infant Mortality. Campbell is a pediatrician at the Our Lady of the Lake Children's Health Pediatric Academic Clinic and will serve the board as a pediatrician.
Aundria H. Cannon of Lafayette has been appointed to the Commission on Perinatal Care and Prevention of Infant Mortality. Cannon is a women’s health nurse practitioner at Southern OBGYN and will serve the board as a nurse practitioner.
Erika J. Moss of Baton Rouge has been appointed to the Commission on Perinatal Care and Prevention of Infant Mortality. Moss is the director of women’s and children’s services at Baton Rouge General Hospital and will serve the board as a neonatal nurse.
State Board of Commerce and Industry
The State Board of Commerce and Industry meets bimonthly and advises on applications for tax incentive programs, including Enterprise Zone, Industrial Tax Exemption, Quality Jobs and Restoration Tax abatement.
Beverly Brooks Thompson Ph.D. of Baton Rouge has been appointed to the State Board of Commerce and Industry. Thompson is managing director at Carter Global.
Law Enforcement Executive Management Institute
The purpose of the Law Enforcement Executive Management Institute is to promote the public peace, by establishing training programs for municipal chiefs of police to provide management courses and skills to enhance the safety of the citizens of Louisiana and the enforcement of state laws.
Chief Anthony D. “David” Anderson of Carencro has been appointed to the Law Enforcement Executive Management Institute. Anderson is the chief of police at the Carencro Police Department and will serve as a certified municipal chief of police (POST).
Chief Christopher J. Wilrye of Westlake has been appointed to the Law Enforcement Executive Management Institute. Wilrye is the chief of police at the Westlake Police Department and will serve as a certified municipal chief of police (POST).
Louisiana Military Advisory Council
The Louisiana Military Advisory Council serves to provide a forum for issues concerning the installations and units of the armed forces located in Louisiana and the military and retired military personnel and their families who reside in Louisiana.
Mayor Clarence E. Beebe of Hornbeck has been reappointed to the Louisiana Military Advisory Council. Mayor Beebe will serve as an elected official of an installation community.
Lt. Gen. Robert J. “Bob” Elder Jr. of Shreveport has been reappointed to the Louisiana Military Advisory Council. Elder will serve as a retired general from the U.S Air Force.
Brian P. Jakes Sr. of Hammond has been reappointed to the Louisiana Military Advisory Council. Jakes is the CEO at the Southeast Louisiana Area Health Education Center and will serve as a president of a regional economic development organization.
Larry L. Jones of River Ridge has been reappointed to the Louisiana Military Advisory Council. Jones is retired from the Coast Guard and the Air Force and will serve as the chair of the Louisiana Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve.
Deborah B. Randolph of Alexandria has been reappointed to the Louisiana Military Advisory Council. Randolph is the president at Central Louisiana Chamber of Commerce and will serve as a president of a regional economic development organization.
Maj. Gen. Ronald G. Richard of Baton Rouge has been reappointed to the Louisiana Military Advisory Council. Richard is retired from the Marine Corps and is the president of the Tiger Athletic Foundation (TAF). Richard will serve as a retired general from the U.S. Marine Corps.
Murray W. Viser of Shreveport has been reappointed to the Louisiana Military Advisory Council. Viser will serve as the president and COO of Barksdale Forward.
Rear Adm. Joel R. Whitehead of Mandeville has been reappointed to the Louisiana Military Advisory Council. Whitehead is the president J. Whitehead and Associates and will serve as an O-6 officer representing the Coast Guard.
State as a Model Employer Task Force
The State as a Model Employer Task Force’s mission is to enhance the diversity of the public workforce, lead the business community, and highlight the State’s position as a leader in the protection of civil rights for individuals living with disabilities.
Lauren C. Guttzeit of Ethel has been appointed to the State as a Model Employer Task Force. Guttzeit is the human resources director at the Louisiana Department of Health.
Joe D. Lewis of LaPlace has been appointed to the State as a Model Employer Task Force. Lewis is a team leader at XP Synergy.
Dairy Stabilization Board
The Dairy Stabilization Board provides a regulatory program that is designed to stabilize the Louisiana dairy industry in order to assure an adequate supply of healthful and wholesome dairy products to Louisiana consumers at fair and reasonable prices.
Calcote H. Simpson of Baton Rouge has been appointed to the Dairy Stabilization Board. Simpson is a branch manager for Blue Bell Creameries and will serve as a representative of wholesale grocers.
