NEW ORLEANS - Townsend Recovery Center of New Orleans was sued in federal court by a licensed practical nurse who says he was treated differently because of his sexual orientation while employed there.

Plaintiff Kenneth Fountain filed the complaint on April 19 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana. Fountain says that his coworkers and superiors made multiple discriminatory statements alleging that the plaintiff was homosexual because he wasn't married and didn't have children.

Fountain further accuses the defendant's employees of wrongfully alleging that he was high on substances at work and subjecting him to two drug screenings, both of which he passed.

In a third drug screening, Fountain says he informed the defendant that he had a benzodiazepine subscription and, despite a pharmacist calling Townsend to verify this, the plaintiff was terminated from his employment.

The rehab center then sent Fountain a hush money request months after his termination requesting the plaintiff's silence after they violated his civil rights, according to the suit.

Fountain is represented by the Law Offices of David Aden of New Orleans.
