NEW ORLEANS -- Aaron Jordan filed a federal lawsuit on July 10 in New Orleans against Downtown Development District, City of New Orleans, Board of Commissioners of the Downtown Development District, Hurt Weigle and Keith Davis for Title VII violations including racial discrimination.
According to the complaint, Jordan is a former employee of the Downtown Development District (DDD), a governmental, political and taxing authority integrated and created as part of the City of New Orleans.
During his employment, Jordan alleges he was subjected to racial discrimination, retaliation, hostile working environment, acts, actions, omissions and torts described as committed. Jordan alleges that there was an ongoing bad practice of some DDD Rangers sitting in hotel lobbies instead of being out patrolling, which is against regulations.
Jordan alleges that while in training, he observed this habit of fellow DDD Rangers sitting in hotel lobbies, cafes, restaurants, and grocery stores by almost every DDD Ranger that he worked or trained with and that events of sitting were not part of a lunch break or a scheduled break, but simply an act of laziness in violation of DDD Ranger patrol rules.
Jordan alleges that no disciplinary action was taken towards upper management when these events were disclosed, and he suffered racial discrimination and retaliation for reporting incidents. Jordan alleges that profanity was used against him, and ultimately he was wrongfully terminated which he believes to be in retaliation and because of discrimination.
Jordan seeks front pay, back pray, lost of past, present and future wages, punitive damages, damages for slander and intentional damage to his reputation, attorney's fees and cost of suit. Jordan is represented by Dominic N. Varrecchio.
