BATON ROUGE - Dennis Guy filed a federal lawsuit on Nov. 12 in the Middle District of Louisiana against the Town of Slaughter, the Slaughter Police Department, Police Chief Walter Smith, Travis Lee Depew and two unidentified officers for unlawful arrest.
According to the complaint, on Nov. 13, 2020, Guy was at home sleeping when Depew and two other officers unlawfully entered Guy's home with their guns drawn. Guy was notified that he needed to come to the station to pick up his daughter who had been detained for trespassing, the suit says.
Guy informed the officers he would get his daughter in the morning as he had had a few drinks and did not want to drive intoxicated, the suit says. Officer Depew and the other officers went back to the station where Depew began calling Guy and instructing him to come get his child, the suit says.
Depew then obtained information and began calling Guy's mother to come get the child, the suit says. Guy called Depew and informed him that he was on his way to pick his daughter up, the suit says.
Upon entering the police station, Guy was arrested for Improper Supervision of a Minor by a Parent or Legal Guardian. Guy spent two nights in jail.
Guy is represented by Scotty E. Chabert, Jr. of Sauders and Chabert in Baton Rouge.
