The Louisiana Supreme Court is considering a new rule relative to language access and court interpreters for limited English proficient individuals in court proceedings and operations.
The purpose of the rule is to ensure that all courts under the supervisory jurisdiction of the Louisiana Supreme Court comply with relevant Federal and State Law, including but not limited to Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The rule was recommended by the Language Access Plan for Louisiana Courts and is consistent with the commitments of the Louisiana Supreme Court and U.S. Department of Justice as executed in the Memorandum of Agreement.
