The Louisiana State Bar Association (LSBA) has announced several leadership positions that are open for the upcoming 2023 LSBA election cycle. The association has opened self-qualifying positions for interested individuals to apply for until October 16th. The elections will be conducted entirely electronically, with electronic ballots made available to LSBA members on November 6th and a deadline for casting votes on November 20th.

Among the positions open for nominations is the President-elect position, who will later assume the presidency in 2025-26. Edward J. Walters, Jr., a partner at Walters, Thomas, Cullens, LLC in Baton Rouge, and C.A. Martin III, a member of Shotwell, Brown, & Sperry, APLC in Monroe, have been nominated for this position. Quinn Brown has been nominated by The Young Lawyers Division Council for the position of Secretary, while the current Secretary, Collin Melacon, will assume the position of chair-elect for the 2024-25 term.

In addition to these positions, there are three open positions on the Board of Governors, one from each of the Sixth, Seventh, and Eighth Board Districts, which will serve three-year terms. The LSBA House of Delegates also has numerous open positions, which serve two-year terms. The Nominating Committee is seeking candidates from various districts across the state, and nominations are being accepted for the Young Lawyers Division Secretary position. The American Bar Association House of Delegates is also looking for two delegates at large and one delegate from the Young Lawyer demographic, with LSBA members eligible to vote for candidates serving two-year terms with the ABA.

Overall, the LSBA election cycle presents an opportunity for qualified individuals to step up and contribute to the leadership and governance of the association. With the elections being held electronically, members can conveniently participate and cast their votes to select the candidates who will serve in these important positions starting in 2024.
