LSU PAUL M. HEBERT LAW CENTER: LSU Law alumna Olivia Maynard (’23) returns to alma mater to join staff as advocacy fellow

LSU Law Class of 2023 graduate Olivia Maynard has returned to the LSU Paul M. Hebert Law Center to join the staff as advocacy fellow.

Maynard will work closely with LSU Law Director of Field Placements and Moot Court/Trial Advocacy Program Jeff Brooks to coach and prepare students for moot court, mock trial, and alternative dispute resolution competitions, as well as assist with administering the program.

“One of Olivia’s primary responsibilities is to provide one-on-one assistance and coaching to any students who are participating in any of our competitions and teams,” said Brooks. “Olivia’s advocacy skills and prior moot court competition experiences make her a great mentor for our students. She will be a valuable resource to the Advocacy Program as we take on nearly 40 competitions this year.”

As a law student, Maynard was an active and successful competitor on several LSU Law moot court teams. She was a regional finalist on the Tom Fore Phillips National Moot Court Competition team and a quarterfinalist in the Robert L. Tullis Moot Court Competition. She also received the Spirit of Judge John R. Brown Award as part of the National Admiralty Moot Court Competition team.

“I am grateful to all the professors who shaped me into the legal thinker I am today,” Maynard said. “For me, the fondest memories of law school were the everyday moments spent with the staff, faculty, and my fellow classmates.”

During her time at LSU Law, Maynard worked as a research assistant to Professor Keith Hall, served as a law and policy intern for The Water Institute, and completed a field placement with the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources. She also served as president of the Maritime and Admiralty Law Society. Prior to law school, Maynard worked as a legal assistant for the Keating Law Firm. She earned her B.A. in history and English from Union College in Schenectady, New York.

During her third year at LSU Law, Maynard served as the Director of Internal Appellate Competitions for the 2022-2023 Board of Advocates. She was inducted into the Order of Barristers following commencement in May 2023.
