A former employee is accusing DG Foods of race and sex discrimination.

Vanessa Jones filed her lawsuit in federal court against DG Foods LLC.

According to the complaint, Jones says she received a lower annual salary than white employees with less experience and similar job responsibilities despite her tenure at the company. She also claims Black female employees were overlooked for promotions in favor of white hires from outside the company.

In addition to these allegations, Jones accuses DG Foods of laying off Black employees during a 2018 company shutdown while retaining white employees. Upon returning to work after the shutdown, Black employees allegedly faced reduced pay rates. Jones also recounts an incident where her shift was switched with a white colleague's at the latter's request despite Jones' own request not to be moved to the night shift.

The lawsuit seeks damages and other legal and equitable relief for violations of various laws including Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Civil Rights Act of 1866 and the Louisiana Employment Discrimination Law.
