A collaborative effort spearheaded by AARP Foundation, AARP Louisiana, Southern University Law Center, Southeast Louisiana Legal Services, Baton Rouge Bar Association, and Louisiana Appleseed brings back the highly acclaimed Free Legal Clinic to Baton Rouge this year. The event is scheduled for Saturday, March 16, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Southern University Law Center at 2 Roosevelt Steptoe Drive.
Lorriane Lucas, advocacy and outreach director at AARP Louisiana, expressed enthusiasm for this year's event, stating, "Last year’s Legal Clinic made a significant impact on the Baton Rouge community, and we’re thrilled to expand our reach even further this year. We're honored to continue collaborating with such esteemed organizations, empowering individuals with the knowledge and support needed for informed decisions regarding estate planning and wealth creation for future generations."
Marla Dickerson, vice chancellor of Innovation and Strategic Partnerships and Initiatives at Southern University Law Center, emphasized the institution’s commitment to community service, stating, “As a community-centered institution, we strive to provide beneficial resources that contribute to productive lives and build prosperous legacies."
The Free Legal Clinic aims to provide attendees with essential tools and resources related to estate planning, disaster preparedness, and recovery. The agenda includes an estate planning presentation and a disaster preparedness information session.
Attendees can also pre-register for one-on-one consultations with attorneys. In certain cases, costs associated with filing successions may be covered for qualifying individuals, ensuring that legal services are accessible to those in need.
Representatives from each participating organization will be present throughout the event, offering assistance and addressing attendees’ legal concerns.
