Dorothy Jackson, a former law professor at Southern University and Agricultural and Mechanical College (Southern University), has filed a lawsuit against the Board of Supervisors for the Southern University, John Pierre, the Chancellor of the Southern University Law Center, and Dr. Ray L. Belton, the President of Southern University. The case was filed in the Court of Appeal, First Circuit in Louisiana with case ID 2023 CA 0732 on March 5, 2024.

The lawsuit alleges that Jackson's termination from her tenured position was unjust and breached her contract with the university. Represented by William David Aaron Jr., DeWayne L. Williams, and Anna Rainer, Jackson claims that her employment contract was subject to the terms of the university’s personnel policy which she argues were violated during her termination process.

The defendants are represented by Dennis J. Phayer, Erika M. Cunningham, Mindy Nunez Dutfourc, Jonathan H. Adams for the Board; Kim Maria Boyle and Rebecca Sha for John K. Pierre; Renee G. Culotta and Benjamin M. Castoriano for Ray L. Belton.

Jackson is seeking relief for breach of contract against the Board as well as damages due to alleged abuse of rights, conspiracy, and fraud by all defendants.
