The State of Louisiana has filed a lawsuit against Jordan Mitchell in the Court of Appeal, Fourth Circuit, under case ID 2024-K-0159. The court filing was made on March 22, 2024. The lawsuit is about the reversal and remand of a trial court's ruling which granted the motion to sever defendants.

Mitchell and his co-defendants, Zakyis Bolden and Dylan Johnson, were indicted with multiple counts including attempted first-degree murder, first-degree rape, second-degree kidnapping, and armed robbery on September 29, 2022. On February 7, 2024, Mitchell moved to sever the trials citing antagonistic defenses among the co-defendants. The state objected to this motion but it was eventually granted by the trial court on March 12, 2024.

The plaintiff in this case is the State of Louisiana represented by Jason R. Williams from District Attorney’s Office Parish of Orleans. They are seeking for an expedited supervisory review of the trial court’s ruling which they believe should be reversed and remanded for further proceedings.
