As Esports continues to forge a path forward in the competitive gaming landscape, the Southern University Law Center’s (SULC) Mixed Reality Virtual Innovation Gaming and Esports Institute will host its third annual Esports Summit scheduled on April 4-5 on the campus of Southern University.

“As we come together for the SULC Esports Summit, spanning two days of insight, innovation, and inspiration, we recognize the pivotal role that discussions surrounding financial wealth, NIL, and community engagement play in building successful athletes and brands,” said Chris Turner, director of the Mixed Reality Virtual Innovation Gaming and Esports Institute. “It's not just about gaming; it's about creating pathways for underrepresented communities to access and thrive in the dynamic world of esports.”

The event is designed to bring together gaming enthusiasts, industry professionals, and students for two days of networking, learning, and competition.

The summit kicks off with The HBCU Heroes’ “Secure the Bag” Tour at the Dr. Leon R. Tarver, II Cultural and Heritage Center. HBCU Heroes sits at the forefront of the new virtual nexus of culture, community, commerce, career, and campus life for the HBCU universe. As the premier digital leader in the space, HBCU Heroes is committed to connecting these five key pillars to corporate and foundation partners to advance, elevate, and inspire the HBCU student community. The tour includes a series of workshops and panels that revolve around topics such as NIL, entrepreneurship, establishing and maintaining good credit, building generational wealth, etc. The tour includes professionals and sports veterans from JP Morgan Chase, Aflac, HillChase, LLC., Tronus Official and more.

The second day of the summit will bring together key industry leaders across the esports ecosystem. Speakers include Kimberly Thomas, president of the companies IGL Foundation, GameHedz Productions and Independent Gaming League; Sergio Brack, director of esports at the University of Maryland; Danny Martin, co-founder/chief executive officer of Esposure Inc., and more.

On Saturday, at the Cotillion Ballroom located in the Smith-Brown Memorial Student Union, participants will hear a diverse array of presentations and panel discussions that will cover a wide range of topics pertinent to the industry. From learning how to build a successful esports facility to gaining knowledge about careers in esports, the summit will allow attendees to engage in insightful discussions, share innovative ideas, and build valuable connections.

“Through networking, mentorship, and shared experiences, we are forging a future where diversity and inclusion are not just buzzwords, but the cornerstones of a vibrant and equitable industry," said Turner.

Registration fees begin at $20 for students and $40 for professionals. Participants can register at www.sulc.edu/esports.
