In the case of State of Louisiana versus Yashica S. Bickham, court case ID No. 2023-KA-0711, filed in the Court of Appeal Fourth Circuit, a judgment was vacated and remanded on April 2, 2024. The lawsuit revolves around charges filed against the defendant for simple battery, simple criminal damage to property worth between $1,000 and $50,000, and obscenity.

Represented by Arianne Bennett from Orleans Public Defender's Office, Yashica Bickham was charged by the State of Louisiana with multiple offenses on August 22, 2022. The prosecution team included Jason R. Williams as District Attorney and Brad Scott and Thomas Frederick as Assistant District Attorneys. After a series of legal proceedings involving nolle prosequi entries and pleas, Bickham pleaded guilty to simple criminal damage to property on June 12, 2023.

The defendant was sentenced to one year of imprisonment at the Louisiana Department of Corrections, suspended with active probation. On June 21, 2023, a restitution hearing took place where it was determined that Bickham should pay the victim $2,500 in damages.

The plaintiff is seeking for the judgment to be vacated and remanded due to alleged errors in ordering an arbitrary restitution amount exceeding the actual pecuniary loss suffered by the victim.
